"Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'un moment.
chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie."
(The joy/pleasure of love lasts for a moment; the pain of love lasts lifelong).
Jean de Florian
Another in my series of introspective self-portraits. This is very symbolism heavy. Ivy (and its vines) traditionally symbolises fidelity and friendship; pearls traditionally symbolise knowledge, love, purity, and womanhood...given its shape and lunar colour, the pearl is often equated to the moon. The heart here bears the usual meanings of love and compassion but specifically represents a selfless offering. The other flowers are minor symbols of new union/life. The fish here furthers the theme of new life, creation, and femininity.
